The Young, The Brave, The Average, is a collection of 14 short Zines that each focus on a different social issue.
My Zine, A Man's Guide to Becoming a Real Man, satires the voice of the stereotypical, masculine fraternity man. Here is the text wrote with inspiration from posts on social media and phrases I've heard in passing.
"Gentlemen,
The time has come to regain what is rightfully ours. Times are changing and its imperative we band together to withhold our kingdom that is so rightfully ours.
We have the innate ability to get away with the most heinous of activities: we can get excessively drunk at any time of any day and even get to hook up with as many girls as humanly possible without a lick of judgement.
As men, we need to remain strong, powerful and dominant. Don't think that you can handle it? Well, then you probably can't, and we don't have time to teach you how. This takes a delicate balance of brute strength, a keen wit and the ability to pull like no other.
We as men do carry lots of power, but its important to realize what we can do with it.
It's not about who's the strongest or who can pull the most girls, but its about creating an atmosphere where any man regardless of size, looks or sexual orientation is able to feel as normal as any other man feels.
It's not important to fit the 'ideal' of masculinity. What is important, however, is recreating this ideal to fit a full array of men. It's more important to accept each other for who we are, as we are all created equal.
Who cares if you can pull the most girls? In the end you're only going to end up with one. Who cares if some are gay, in the end that's more girls for you to choose from. In the end, it's about being who you are, and that, my friends, is what a real man is made of.
Fraternally,
Your Fellow Man"
